www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68282297maybe a full thread of it's own in unnecessary, but staggered when i heard Port Vale had given him a 5 and half yr contract. are they trying to bankrupt themselves. ?? I was never impressed with the guy at Sheff wed and couldn't understand why he was at a big club with such an ordinary record. yes he got them up, but with even more resources than even Evatt's had. & lucky at that having been trounced in the 1st play off semi by P'boro. no surprise to me they ditched him. he goes to Huddersfield. sacked from there. can't blame him too much as they are in a tight spot anyway. BSA got a 10 yr contract with us, but he had to earn it with us. LSL got a contract for life , not earned..but not in writing either . lets see how this one goes. will he prove me wrong. ?

don't know if this is true. wait a sec for tweets to load.
seen 1 or 2 saying this or similar. and even a previous manager had a 5 yr contract, but was only paid up 1 yr.
rest of reaction similar to mine. :
< great comeback this one. 🤣
< win % of 13% at Hudd. 1 win in 23. ouch !!

just for the record so , we can judge against it many months or years later. Port Vale are now 22nd in lge 1. Moore has had 1 game and lost it 3-2. 2 pt's adrift from Charlton who outside the releg zone in 20th with 33pt's. Vale got 3 games in hand on them, and are like i say, 2 pt's adrift.
the 3-2 loss was against Cheltenham, , who are releg rivals, who went above them into 21st place.

I actually like bigvDarren and think this is a great appointment for Vale. I think he was extremely unfortunate to be sacked by West Brom but then did a really good job at Donny with little or no money before being poached by Wednesday who he got promoted. Yes he struggled at Huddersfield but so did Warnock and we’ll have to wait to see how their new guy goes. Vale could be a good fit for him because it’s potentially a good sized club so I’m hoping he does well. They made a good start on Saturday, got to two up but then let it slip but as you say rioch they have games in hand so I think they’ll make it and stay up.

"Yes he struggled at Huddersfield but so did Warnock "Warnock kept them up last season. can't remember the exact circumstances but followed it loosely at the time. remember them beating some top sides and they were probably slight underdogs to stay up when he joined. definitely struggled this season. should have perhaps left in the summer, which he probably had planned too, but seeing as it'd gone so well, he gave it a go. they both had exactly 23 games at Hudd. Warnock won more than he lost. won 9. win % 39.13 . Moore won 3. win % 13% . that's Sammy Lee type stats. just a bit more on Darrell Clarke . he didn't get a 5yr contract when appointed. looks like he signed an extension to get that. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/61599535he got it on 26/5/22 but is sacked less than 1 yr later on 17/4/23.www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65297516Clarke is currently manager of Cheltenham, who 've been gradually recovering after that awful start. he only joined late Sept. but funnily enough played Port vale like i said above this wkend in Moore's 1st game...beating them 3-2. one of those classic quirks of football. my personal prediction for Moore at Vale. i'll give him 18 mths to 2 yrs max. in some strange way you're almost better going down, as long as you can dis-own yourself from the blame for that. then re-build, and come up with momentum, winning more games and playing a bit more football, rather than fire-fighting in bottom end of Lge 1. trouble is i think Moore, is quite a big catch for them and probably expectations are for him to do the biz this season.

First thought was that 5 years seems a long reign as a manager. Which made me again think of Evatt and his 5 year plan. If we do fail to be promoted are the likes of Santos, Charles, Dempsey, Sheehan, Baxter etc prepared to stay in L1? Or will be need another rebuild.
Especially with Santos, we're forever bigging him up as the best non PL player. He at some point has to prove it at the next level.
If Evatt loses those players will he want to stay and rebuild or does he then start looking for a new club?
Personally I don't think we'll make any decision until the end of next season but mutually think a parting could come at the end of this season.

Evatt's situation obviously all depends on what happens this season OM. He’s banked everything on getting up and I think FV have too. If we don’t will FV stay around is probably more the question because rumours are that they will either bring in new serious investment or sell out completely if we do make the Championship. My money would be on an extra investor as I think they want to see if they can make the PL. one things for certain if we do and that’s that Evatt stays. Why wouldn’t he? In fact even if we don’t make it I still see no reason he’d want to leave and ditto the players you’ve mentioned. Are they good enough for the Championship? They certainly all have weaknesses even at this level and I’d say for me probably only George, Baxter and maybe Forester could hold their own at the next level and all are young enough to do it. I’m sure some of them will adapt to a higher level but to be honest neither Victor nor Dion look that level to me which is probably why nobody ever seems to actually come in for them? You never know but let’s get to the Championship first before we start comparing starting with 3 points tomorrow at Cambridge.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68340952todays Managerial madness story. Beale sacked at Sunderland after 12 games. god knows what goes on with the appointment process these days.... not sure what he'd done to deserve that job. only 22 games at QPR . then going to (Glasgow) Rangers, and finish 2nd in a 2 team lge. some odd quotes from Beale. fans not liking his accent. that's a good way to get them onside. !? . bit like telling season ticket holders of 50+ yrs to go support another club. but you've got to blame the people who appointed him most of all. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Mowbray#Sunderland Mowbray was sacked when they were in 9th place. well liked apparently. now they are in 10th, probably partly due to 66% win record of the caretaker in between Mowbray and Beale , otherwise they'd have probably slipped further down.

Mowbray has also stepped away, well through illness but oddly still remaining there in tact as a sort of mentor to an interim. (Yeah can see that working well)
I didn't even realise Hodgson had gone until Palace announced a new manager either. The merry go round seems to be in full swing.

For those players particular Santos and Charles I'd imagine if they made the move to any championship team they may double and treble their salary with any team in the Championship. Just think not going up completely messes up or even derails the project. Guess it all comes down to how much Sharon believes in Evatt. Me personally I'd be asking when we might see some offers for our players. The only offer we've got in two years was Dapo on the cheap and GT who wasn't an Ian Evatt/Chris Markham recruit. Not a great look for the project.

Ha, 2 defeats in 2 games. Gonna be a long 66 months. Yep. i saw that too. not having the desired managerial bounce. suprising why he would take it, unless promised some decent resources. bit of a climb down in such a short period. promoted one season. possibly relegated the next....not that it's all his doing or whatever. but we rarely see the top guys in the PL have to take the lower end jobs. interesting to observe and learn from this one. they look so good getting 50-60% win %'s with big club and resources. don't look quite so clever at the other end do they. like i discussed with Andy L on my "passing out thread", a few mths ago, we have the odd example in the PL. Pellegrini at West ham nothing special compared to Man city exploits. ditto Rafa at Newcastle.. compared to his Liv'pool stuff. when Steve Bruce replaced Rafa he was getting some terrible stick, yet largely produced the same results. bit like going for those branded banked beans which cost £1.50 a can compared to the Aldi beans in a blind taste test. Solskjaer at man u or Cardiff another example.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68324419nice little win for Phil Brown at Kidderminster, away at promotion chasing Oldham. i heard he'd got that job but wasn't following it at all closely. didn't even realise they were in the national lge. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67941461he was appointed when they were bottom. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Brown_(footballer,_born_1959)#Managerial_statistics his record from then on. played 8. won 5. drew 1 lost 2. how the hell do you get 62.5% win % inheriting a team who's bottom. and it's not that it's a biggish team like Oldham he's picked up bottom. still got plenty to do to keep them up. don't know why decent people like him with records of keeping teams up & promotions into the PL , are having to get jobs at that level when you see some of the barmy appt's being made. probably time has well passed for a job with us. perhaps should have got it approx 10 yrs ago. he's tried to copy BSA a bit too much taking these firefighting jobs. succeeded at Barrow keeping them up when it was touch and go in 20/21, beating lge leaders 4-0 in the bargain. sometimes he's been a bit too keen to get involved and should wait for a good steady job. you're only as good as your players in the long run, and you can't turn water into wine. most managerial records at that level have plenty blemishes on them, as well as the success, even Warnock with his 8 promotions . it doesn't work every time.
