Ok, here we go for the first game of the season at the Toughsheet Community Stadium !!!!
What can we expect this season, what lessons have we learned from last season, how can we ramp it up a notch to exceed play off qualifying to automatic promotion?
We start off following an impressive 4-3 win v WBA, whereas The Imps were done 3-0 at home
We have to start with a home win and a convincing win to show our promotion credentials in front of a decent 16-18,000 crowd
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a decent season but I sincerely hope there’s another striker in the way in before this Saturday as we cannot rely on what we’ve got
3-1 to the Trotters

Having seen who our major competitors have signed rioch I believe our players are far better. I Know you’re concerned about our strikers but I’m not and think that Victor and Cameron look much sharper and the increased quality of service from the likes of Gomez will make all the difference. It seems that Ian has realised and in fact stated that last year we over passed to ball around the box instead of pulling the trigger. I know it’s the first game but I genuinely expect the boys to hit the ground running, full of confidence and ready for a comfortable win so I’ll go 3-0. With Derby at home to Wigan I’m expecting a good win from them too so we need to get some early results to get us out front. After todays signing which should fill the MJ void I’m not expecting any more signings though if IE still has cash left there are still strikers out there who could just finish us off?

Opening games anything can happen. Teams can start well and then fade and burn out and Teams can take a while to gel and then hit the ground running.
I don't always like Boltons home games against Teams we should win. We rarely make it easy. Take an early lead, kill the game off and see it out. Usually its 70m of keep ball and then try and grab a winner. But genuinely we do find a way a lot of the time.
Evatt deals is nil and ones rather than twos and threes and although I think we are capable of beating Lincoln 3 or 4 to nil liklihood is it will be 1-0, 1-1 or 0-0.
Don't see us losing but fear we may get off with a point.
Would it be the worst thing to start the season a little (Not badly) just slowly so the reality kicks in and we be honest about our strikers. Jerome on a free, Nlundulu maybe another loan, Vic on the transfer list and get a quality loan in.

Actually OM I’m confident we’ll see a much more enterprising and attack minded approach this year because Evatt himself has admitted that last year it was the lack of goals that cost us. You can certainly see from pre season how much more the players are choosing to shoot rather than pass and I expect that to continue. I even expect the strikers to join in with that and with the likes of Williams seeming to have found form and a much more attacking No10 in Gomez I think it’s defensively we may need any concerns. The juries still out on Baxter but hopefully he’ll come good and do the trick? As you say first games are notoriously tricky but a win, especially a good one will do wonders for confidence and to be honest we have to take a Plymouth approach and ensure that ALL home games are wins because even draws won’t get us where we need to be. I see Lincoln have signed Ethan Hamilton and that’s a really good signing plus their striker Ben Hpuse has turned down bids from the Championship and signed a new contract so they must be coming here with confidence. Their fans certainly think so as on their predictions thread most have them down as a win, so let’s hope they’re wrong and we send them home pointless? I’m going to stick my neck out and say a 2-0 win to the Whites. I would have said 3 but it’s the first game and all that so I’ll be modest. 😉

I'm hoping that we start with the same intent that we had at Wembley at score at least 3 goals.

More instances of why I don't like Evatt. Did an interview and said his favourite formation would be 433. Why lie? If you wanted to play 433 Dapo would still be here and Sadlier would have a role. And once again a complete my way or highway with Declan John, who I think embarrassed him a bit last season by proving he was and is the best wing back and him not playing was not "footballing reasons". He praised through gritted teeth and got the sense he wanted John to fail so badly.

Been a while where the starting XI isn't so easy to predict. Think we will go.
Baxter. DC Jones Santos Iredale Williams Morley Sheehan Dempsey Charles Adeboyejo???
Just think it will be a slower introduction because the Paris and Gomes haven't had that long and might be better for Forester and Ashworth to see how we do it "for real" before stepping in.
Who partners Charles is anyone's guess. Would have said Bod but unsure he will be fit enough and think Iredale was a doubt so maybe Ashcroft would get the nod.
As a fan you always go into a season wanting to see new signings and I guess Gomes is the marquee or most attack minded so would be excited to see him start but just think we at least start with some familiarity.
Going 1-1. No, let's start a bit more positive 1-0.

At last the football is back.
As I have always said, I am in the optimistic camp.
We have a good sizable squad which looks much better quality than most of our opponents.
Obviously there will be ups and downs but, unlike some on here, I see a good season ahead.
Picking the team is a lot harder these days – which is a good thing.
Everyone being fit, the defence is probably the easiest to pick:- Baxter, Dacres-Cogley, Jones, Santos, Iredale, Williams with Toal, Forrester, Ashworth, John and eventually Johnson to come in as needed.
Midfield gets crowded:- I expect Morley, Sheehan and Dempsey to be the starting three with Thomason and Maghoma on the bench.
Similarly, there is a big choice (maybe not quality as yet) up front. I would expect to see Charles and, if Bodvarsson is unfit, Adeboyejo starting. The manager seems to like Nlundulu but I don’t quite see it yet. Mendes-Gomes will probably start on the bench and come on after the standard 60 minutes. Jerome and Sadlier may even miss out being on the bench.
Looking at the numbers above, there will be a lot of disappointed footballers who will not even get on the subs bench.
On to today. We should be too strong for Lincoln who had a really average/poor season last year.
I go for a 2-0 win.

I just hope he HAS learned from all his mistakes last season!
I would love to see the new signings (and every player) improve in quality and skill every game - surely the sign of a great Manager/coach?
Every corner a danger for the other team, none totally useless and wasted.
Lots of shooting from outside the box and on target, not straight to row Z.
Lots more effective and skillful dribbling.
A keeper who does not make insane decisions and mistakes.
Not one goal GIFTED to the opposition.
"COME ON YOU WHITE MEN"

Good afternoon one and all well the real football is back. My first post for a while so first off pleased with the new signings apart from the lack of a full on goal getter, that said we have five with four that finished the last season with only one hitting a barn door that has to change. Question how long does Ian give his strikers to start scoring and can we please just do what it takes to get out of this division. Today should be a comfortable win but knowing our manager 1-0 will do.
I have not got a season ticket this as I can't afford one but I have paid a fiver a month to Wanderers TV so I will tune in today to listen how it goes. My prediction 3-0 win. COYWM Enjoy the season one and all

What would you do if you were Lincoln City??
Just go for it..
When the fixtures came out and they saw Bolton away as the first game, it must have dropped a few heads here and there, but come kick off time, you’d have to be up for it
Just as we must, from minute ONE
