Yet again several good opportunities but missed again. When is somebody going to at least attempt a shot from distance? We’re yet again too slow getting the ball forward allowing Barnsley to get men behind the ball and stifle us. We have numerous players who can shoot but nobody even tries so it’s no wonder the keepers never tested. Weak yet again from set pieces, we just carry no threat at all and surely Evatt has to address that?

I’ll criticise the manager….
60 odd % possession yet again with just ONE shot to show for it
Our corners and set pieces are bloody awful
Look at the half time stats from the other L1 games, there’s a goal or 2 (and even 4) in every single game, bar ours. That’s Evatt for you. He’s hit his limit now and cannot train the squad to score from direct positions, let alone set pieces. It’s proper crap
Glad I’ve got the Rugby on in the background
FGR with 2 away at Port Vale, we managed none Bristol Rovers with 4 away at Cheltenham, we managed none😞
S⚽️H⚽️O⚽️O⚽️T for crying out loud, you never know, it might just go in⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️

Plan A would have been a start!!!!
Evatt squaring up to Luca Connell at the end - embarrassing
I’m sure there’s enough support to keep this clueless clown in the job, but not from me, it’s bloody rubbish
Time for change

Most good women's teams would thrash us and I really thought we were improving before the last three games. I forgot to praise Santos the other day for working on his heading at goal.

Awful, awful, awful yet again, absolutely no threat up front and our set pieces and corners just get worse if anything. All that possession and did absolutely nothing with it. One shot on target again, how bad is that and two really good chances missed as usual. I honestly don’t know where a goal is coming from? Barnsley didn’t even have to get out of second gear, they knew we were no threat and just let us have the ball. Another 5 substitutions from Mr Tinkerman completely destroyed any hint of fluency and cohesion we had and stinks of desperation and hope rather than planned effective changes. I mean what chance do you have of players gelling in 20 minutes when you make so many changes? It’s not Evatt out time but unless he turns things round quickly we can say goodbye to any hopes of the top six this year. To make matters worse he admitted during the window he’d been offered some real quality strikers yet decided to stick with what he has, just as he did with Doyle last year. I’m afraid Evatt’s decision making must now be questioned. I feel worse than if we’d lost after that and I’m quickly losing interest.

W63 He seems to have coached ‘average’ players into very very crap players
I had high hopes for an abundance of goals from Bod, Baka, Dion and Dap, we’re not even seeing shots from them. I think our last goal was a penalty unless I’m mistaken That’s got to be down to this manager and his coaching staff and like I say, his antics on the sidelines and his squaring up to opposition players is just worrying and embarrassing. The man has no dignity and must surely be a target for the majority of referees awaiting his tantrums and sideline antics
It’s shambolic and cannot go on
FV/SB oust him now

Whites, always thought you saw the game very much the same as me, weve agreed on a lot but you have faith in Evatt that I just dont have. We have done the same roller coaster ride in all 3 seasons. Started ok, nosedived completely. Last season was the same to the point where it doesnt look like we'll score. Last season we went from beating Ipswich 5, Charlton 4, as well as 6 goals in scoredraws vs the Wimble(MK)dons. To weekly shut outs. Fleetword, Accringtons, etc.
Theres something so hit and miss with Ian to the point where a whole new side needs to be brought in to rescue the season.
I really fear for us these next few weeks. Coyle like in not being able to stop the rot.
There was a part of me that thought Ians going to go all out and make me eat my words today. Nope. More convinced he isnt capable of it.

Just a very boring game Lots of one paced predictable drudgery compounded by countless poor passes and ineffective dead ball kicks.
Charles somehow missed two tap ins. We got away with a late Santos error dithering. Only Trafford really did ok and he was not tested. As at Cheltenham 5subs didn't work. Sheehan and Lee were the obvious choices to add creativity but spurned In all of this my greatest irritation is Evatts new fad of kicking towards North in first half. How negative. Many a time down the years we have helped the Wanderers secure a late equaliser or winner at that end. Now the games just fizzle. It's much like the dugout shift. Just moving the deckchairs for me. We have yet again lost our way and need to deal in the window.
Trafford 6 Bradley 6 Jones 4 Santos 6 Johnston 6 Williams 6 Thomasson 6 Iredale 5 Charles3 Bodvarsson 5 Dapo6

Andyl, I think we lost the toss and it was Barnsley who decided to switch ends but other than that I can’t disagree with anything you’ve said. I’m sorry to say that I don’t see what Dempsey brings and 7ntil he gives Sadlier a run in his proper position well never see the best of him. I agree, Lee and Sheehan would have been my choices but I suppose hindsight is always easy? My biggest complaint other than no shots and crap set pieces again, is the use of all 5 subs. It smacks of panic and completely lost any shape or cohesion the team had.
OM, I agree we’ve always seemed to agree on things but I have retained more faith in Evatt than yourself and Rioch seem to have but that confidence is soon running out. I still think we have to stick with him for now but it has to improve.

"OM, I agree we’ve always seemed to agree on things but I have retained more faith in Evatt than yourself and Rioch seem to have but that confidence is soon running out. I still think we have to stick with him for now but it has to improve."
We have had some bad, bad squads in the last decade. This isnt one. Improvement is so easy(i think) but it involves Evatt holding his hands up and saying ok lets tweak this.
I dont know who is coaching the strikers. But if its between Evatt and Peter Atherton may be the reason for the slump.
I would give Fil Morais and Dave Wheater a call and ask them for some sessions on set pieces.
But really what we need to do is tempo. People often say we play or try and play like Man City. Are you sure? I dont see them passing for the sake of it. They dont stop moving. It will take them 40 seconds to get from GK to forward with everyone having a touch.
We'll have it 4 minutes and still have 11 players in front of us. Its labourious, slow, pointless.
If we go 1 up its perfect. But we dont seem to play with any intent these days. Of all the squad there is only Dixon, Kachunga, Bakayoko that I think are not up to it. The rest are.

A dreadful, dreadful game of football.
Barnsley came with the sole intention of getting a 0-0 or maybe grabbing something on the break, which they almost did whilst we were so slow in moving the ball. As a caller said on Radio Manchester after the match, we had no playmaker.
One shot on target in the whole match and that was in the 1st minute.
We persisted with 2 defensive midfielders which I do not get whilst we had 5 midfielders (most of our playmakers) on the bench.
We almost scored in the 1st minute when Charles got a good shot in that the keeper saved well. Little did we know that that would be our only shot on target.
Barnsley sat back and tried to get at us on the break. We continued with the dreadful passing about at the back and, as usual, scared the life out of us in the first 5 minutes with some wayward passing.
Charles just failed to get on to a ball across the box, Bodvarsson poked wide from a decent chance but proper chances did not come.
Part of the problem was the speed at which we played which was almost walking football. The passing across the back was slow and laboured and at times poor. Santos would get the ball and walk with it; Barnsley just let him walk it out and kept 10 men behind the ball until Santos would eventually launch the ball forward very inaccurately. It was crying out for some passing through midfield and balls into the channels for the strikers but, of course, all our midfielders capable of accurately passing the ball were on the bench.
We are in serious danger of becoming a long ball team.
So 0-0 at half time and pretty poor. And there was no improvement in the 2nd half. We had some corners which brought out a new routine but, unfortunately, our corner takers hit the first defender nearly every time. Yet again awful dead ball taking.
Ironically, our best chance came from a corner which we messed up again but then Barnsley also messed up and left Thomason with a chance of a shot on the edge of the box. He blazed well over – awful shooting. Williams showed that it is not only Thomason who cannot shoot with an equally bad shot minutes later.
Charles then missed an open goal when Jones crossed for him to tap in but somehow the ball bounced off him (his knee?) and went wide.
So the game drifted towards 0-0. We brought on 5 subs – did anyone notice them? Until Barnsley got the break they looked for (but didn’t deserve) when a break down the left resulted in a centre which Norwood headed over from 10 yards out. Neither Santos nor Johnston had covered Norwood. Rank bad defending which they should have scored from.
Listening to the manager on the radio afterwards, he seemed quite happy about the performance. I wasn’t.
A toothless display partly brought about by a desire to keep this defensive record we currently have. We are so negative these days – summed up by the dreadful walking football out of defence plus the obsession with turning round and passing back. We had one attack in the last few minutes when we were on the edge of the Barnsley penalty area but we turned around and 4 passes later the ball was back with Trafford.
Plus throw ins now consist of the thrower turning and throwing ball 20 or 30 yards backwards to either Johnston or Santos. This was happening to throws taken in the Barnsley half!
Anyway, so disappointing.
Next 4 games are against teams 17th or lower so surely we may do some attacking in these games.
Marks:-
Trafford - 7 Too much wandering way out of his area for my liking. Obviously, a pre-determined ploy. As usual, did all he had to do. Just one hairy moment when he and Santos got in a mess with a bouncing ball. Bradley - 7 He has lost a little of his early season drive but still our best attacking hope. 5th booking of the season so suspended for the next match. Jones - 6 A couple of decent runs. One great cross for Charles to mess up but lots of crosses hitting the first defender. Santos - 5 Defending reasonable. He lost his marker a couple of times in the 2nd half but forward play was terrible. So slow on the ball and his passing stunk Johnston - 5 Between him and Santos, they lost Norwood who headed over in the last few minutes when he should have scored. As with Santos, some rank bad long balls Iredale - 5 Defensively OK but he is not a wing back. He put a couple of crosses in but does not match up to Declan John for attacking play Williams - 5 Much too negative. I accept he is the defensive midfielder but too much of his passing was backwards. One excellent cross field pass in the 2nd half Thomason - 4 This combination of Williams and Thomason is not working in my mind. The pair of them do not have an attacking bone in their bodies Afolayan - 6 Tried hard and did some good runs but nowhere near as effective as he was last season on the left wing Bodvarsson - 5 A struggle but very little supply from midfield Charles - 4 A good shot in the 1st minute but then it all went to pot after that. Somehow had a horrendous miss from a few yards out in the 2nd half Bakayoko - 4 Never noticed him Sadlier - 4 A chance to show what he is capable of in midfield but messed it up Dempsey - 5 Booked with his first touch and could not get in the game at all Kachunga Morley

Just got home and I’m sorry for this but what a piss poor game that was yes we could say that Barnsley came to spoil the game and slow things down but come on, can we not move forward any faster and when we get it into there box there’s nothing there we seem to be looking for the next pass instead of putting our boots through the ball. 1 shot on target again 8 corners and we did nothing with them 🤷♂️ What the hell is wrong with our team are they told to pass the fxck out the ball and bore the opposition to sleep. If we are serious about going up we need to wake up and smell the coffee don’t get me wrong it’s brilliant we didn’t concede but bloody hell we need to score rant over I’m going for a 🍺. Onwards and upwards COYWM

When Ian Evatt plays the Man City way and it clearly doesn’t ever work, regularly, well Man City, with all their quality are proving that their special brand of passing the opposition into boredom, also doesn’t ‘always’ work
94 mins on the clock with 2 mins left and City still continue to piss around passing sideways!!!!!
Remind you of anyone???
Can’t even see Haaland equalising (he is human after all)
Evatt take note - try something different Pretty please

I can explain everything.
Seeing the number of games to be played in October I purchased an ifollow monthly pass. Three games on and I am yet to see us score and can only remember one shot on target. Sorry as I have clearly cursed the team. I will not renew so expect us to score a hatful of goals in November. The 45 second "highlights" on youtube will suffice for me as I am struggling to stay awake during the matches at present (but that might also be down to age or a lack of vitamin B12 in my diet)!
