We go into this full of confidence and with momentum for a change. Will that confidence go to our heads or will we build?
Maybe that Ipswich game just played into our hands. A team that didnt sit back but kept possession so we couldnt and forced us to play up.
I know this is a wrong view but I dont think i'll ever consider Shrewsbury to be a game we shouldnt win. Nicky Spooner could have taken the Jr Whites there with Brocky, Darcy, etc and i'd still back us(and you all know how pessimistic i am)
Glad to see Vela knuckle down and get back playing but hope he doesnt get a sniff tomorrow(didnt he throw some awful two footed tackles in last time we played or am i remembering incorrectly).
Will we kick on or end back at square 1?
I think Dion will get on the scoresheet tomorrow. And im going for 1-3 to the whites.
Then lets sign Dempsey and on deadline day pull a magic loan striker out of the hat.

I am back into super optimistic mode after last Saturday and the transfer activity this week.
It will be interesting to see what side starts. We have now reached a position whereby it is difficult to predict what our best side is which must be positive.
I want Afolayan to be in the starting line-up but who to leave out? I would hope, fitness allowing, that Bodvarsson starts. If both he and Charles are regarded as not 100% match fit, maybe Charles will start and be replaced by Bodvarsson after the usual 60 minutes.
Very confident about tomorrow – been to Shrewsbury 4 times and seen 4 wins so lets keep the record going.
I’m going to pinch OohMac’s forecast and also go for a 3-1 win.

Is Bodvarsson eligible for this one? I'm so used to red tape hampering deals. Even our own players and players already on loan couldnt play when games were getting abandoned left, right and centre.
On top of that he has been away with Iceland too and wasnt in Dan Barnes expected team(who went no Dapo and Baka in a 5-3-2.
As i mentioned on other thread, a lot will come down to Gethin Jones. Pretty much formation and personnel all across the pitch will be about the RB. Can he play all games after a lay off.
If he can then need to get him and Fossey in. But can John and Dapo replicate that on the other side or does John do the wing baxk and do we again leave Dapo out. Or does Dapo then play alongside Dion Charles.
It is interesting times again and probably will be until the rest of the season. Especially if we can get Dempsey and one more- bona fide striker.

Not sure where you’re getting this extra loan striker from OM, hasn’t IE stated that Dempsey will conclude the incomings? Now we have Bodvarsson I’m not sure any more will come in with Dapo and Baka up top as well. I agree though it’s difficult to pick the first eleven now but I don’t expect Bod to start, probably Baka initially up top with Charles, one of which to be subbed later. Surely Charles must be getting to the ninety minute stage now with all the training he’s done? As for Dapo, I’d expect him to be sub again and a starting eleven much the same as last week with him coming on later but what a sub to have to come on. Hopefully that now means no place for Delf and at last we’ll have some subs who can at least come on and make a difference? Could that be the shove that Delf needs to move on before the window closes? As for today, the lads should be well up for it and like everyone else, I fully expect us to get the 3 points so I’ll go along with the 1-3 score line to Wanderers.

My thinking is Doyle Out, Charles in. Bodvasson in, Kachunga out for the majority of the season. So we're like for like really and we needed more firepower pre Jan so if there was any deadline day drama I would hope it would be for a another striker. And you never know how the events may change. Suddenly an earlier target may be available.
Does any manager turn down a goalscorer?

I failed to get a ticket for today’s game but to tell you all the truth I’m getting very disappointed with football in general after reading about the whole world are bending over backwards to to help Shrek’s Derby out and nobody gave a flying fxcking for Bury or us 🤷♂️. That’s my moan out the way 🤞for a win today onwards and upwards stay safe one and all COYWM

Fortunate to be 0-0 at half time.
Shrewsbury just out-passing us.
Bakayoko not holding the ball up and Charles totally anonymous.
Loads of space wide down our defence. Vela having a field day.
Must bring Afolayan on hopefully. We need to hold on to the ball. Just losing possession too often.

Is it me or is it Evatt?
If we had Messi Ronaldo and Haaland up too, we wouldn’t score
This Charles for Doyle seems pointless if the poor lad doesn’t get any service Another 45 minutes with not one attempt at goal, well, clear attempt that is Just go for it Evatt ffs Should have started with Bod, Dapo and Baka, let the Shrews have it. It’s the type of game that we probably could afford to play them 3
Ah well, look on the bright side No Delf

Somewhat fortunate win it sounds, I only managed the last 20 minutes commentary as I was out today but a class goal from Charles it seems and up to 15th, which looks better. If we can do Sunderland next week it’ll really set us up for all the games in February which paid off well for us last year. Not getting carried away but wins build confidence and whilst it’s probably a little over optimistic to think we can still make the play offs, if we keep winning you never know? Anyway, an excellent 3 points from the boys today and hopefully that will inspire Dion to go on a run now?

A great result but NOT a great performance.
We were second best for most of the game as Shrewsbury just out-passed us.
But what often happens in those sort of games, happened for us today when Afolayan set Charles up for a rocket shot to win the match.
Overall, the first half was poor. We had a couple of half-hearted attacks but other than that it was all Shrewsbury. They won the ball endlessly in midfield and passed so much better than we did. Vela had so much room down the right where Johnston and John could not get it right.
Defensively though, we blocked most things and their shooting was rank bad.
Second half, we improved a little and had some attacks. We should have scored from a corner but Jones headed wide when he should have scored and, at last, we had shots from Charles and Afolayan on target.
As the game dragged on, Shrewsbury faded a bit and it became more even only for Charles’ wonder shot to win it.
As I said, a great result – I’ll take that.
Marks:-
Trafford - 7 Just one mistake when he misjudged a centre but otherwise very calm. Good performance.
Jones - 6 Good. He couldn’t link up with Fossey as much as I had hoped. Missed a great headed chance from a corner.
Santos - 7 Good. No silly mistakes today. Difficult opponent to play against but he did well.
Johnston - 5 He still loses too many balls in the air. He got forward well a few times but his passing is so poor.
Fossey - 6 Played well. Some good pace. Occasionally got stranded upfield when Shrewsbury were attacking.
John - 6 OK but between him and Johnston there was acres of space down our left of defence. Vela had a field day.
Williams - 4 It isn’t quite working for him since his injury. Shrewsbury’s midfield dominated the game.
Morley - 6 OK. Nothing outstanding but steady.
Lee - 5 Not quite sure why he was subbed. Along with everyone else, he had a poorish first half.
Bakayoko - 5 He was unable to keep hold of the ball so our attacks broke down too easily.
Charles - 7 Very quiet first half when he just couldn’t get into the game. Had our first on-target shot after 60 minutes and then scored a brilliant shot for the winner.
Afolayan - 6 At least brought some attacking ideas when he came on. He does spend most of his time trying, and often succeeding, in winning free kicks. Needs to stop whinging at the referee.
Bodvarsson - 6

Brilliant strike saved a poor game and WOT a strike. Real class, almost back to goal when he hit it, pure instinct after the ball popped up for him and he belted it on the volley. Neither side looked like scoring before this, so with their record, 0.0 would have been a good result as we were being over run and under the cosh at times. WHY can no-one head in this bloody team? I mean a header, on target with power? One free header, unmarked and glanced it wide - yet again WOT do they do at training? Soooooo pleased that Evatt has finally cleaned his rose tinted spectacles and finally kicked Delfouneso OUT! Well done to the 1650 who travelled Anyone notice the ref pace out one of the free kicks? 8 paces, squirted the line then later, squirted the foam behind the wall. What was all that about? If they were back the proper 10 yards Morley might have scored. Well done the lads, onward and upward

It was important that we stopped that awful run of losses so part of me was thinking 0-0 will do(on this occassion)
So to get Dion up and running(when is his hearing, if at all by the way?) another clean sheet and not only ending the rot but getting a win. Cannot grumble.

Opposite of hawk. Had a ticket but in the end didn't go- just a bit too much after a hectic week. Maybe I should stay away more. Personally I'm just pleased that we are giving priority to defence and having a bit of luck. Even on highlights Shrewsbury could have had a couple. So good to win games late on. Now regretting not going- nothing so uplifting a late winner/late equaliser after a defensive battle- shades of WBA three seasons ago and the Dutch player I've forgotten the name of, a couple of Miller Times and a Gnahouha last year at Mansfield and a splendid Beavers at Southend, a couple of Nolan's one at Birmingham, a Sam era Diouf v West Brom, one or two Klasnic specials to draw, Robbie Blake. Tamir Cohen. Stu Holden v Blackburn, Stelios v Derby and no doubt others including a McGinlay Preston penalty and Wolves equaliser, a Mark Patterson 4-3 Forest clincher in 1993- going back into the mists of my 60 year enslavement. In terms of quality this Charles strike was as good as any of those- save maybe Stu Holden's winner. ( notwithstanding the ecstasy of Andy Walker's cup clincher at Arsenal and De Freitas's play off winner v Reading and Mixu's before that) ---in context Stu H's the best of all- could have ben capped by Dean Holdsworth in extra time at Wembley Villa Semi Final but he missed- still don't know how.
