Tuesday 27/10. k.o 7pm.
bit of background into Bradford. they are in 15th place. played 7. won 2. drew 3. lost 2. lost 3-0 on sat'day to new leaders Newport.
they concede a lot of shots. 2nd worst in lge. avg 15.1 per game. but they've only let in 9 goals to our 12. ( but we have played 1 game more )
in attack. they have better shots and shots on target figures than us. the latter 4.9 per game, compared to our 2.8. but they only scored 1 more goal than us ( remembering that 1 game less they've played) .
their topscorer is Lee Novak. only got 3 goals in the lge. next best all on 1 goal. Novak did score in the EFL cup against us in their 2-1 win at the UniBol on 5th Sept.
I remember that Santos chaseback at 0.56
prediction : i'll be optimistic this time. 2-1 win. we are harder to beat & confidence should be up from that. only 1 loss in October, and that was the stupid last min one vs Oldham. 2 aspects still cause concern. Crellin. 2 games in a row, he's made big mistakes, and he hardly faced a shot in anger in that last one, yet still managed to fluff one. & the dodgy home form. still looking for our 1st win. 4 played in Lge. 3 defeats. as I said on the Cambridge thread. when we try to play the expansive style, it's not worked, and we've tended to do that at home.
possibility Isgrove might be back for this one. maybe Miller too ?? confidence is coming through in the play now too. 3 tricks & flicks in the Cambridge game of note: 1. Sarcevic backheel to Kioso . 2 Crawford dummies to come short ,and spins in behind and plays a pass to Delf. who lays it off for a Brocky shot ( this is at 1.11 in the extended highlights) 3. Crawford backheel tee-ing up Sarce, who then passed to Brocky for the wrongly disallowed goal

Well, I'm not going to back anyone in this game.
1. Have we got more then Sarky for a goalscorer? and
2. Will we be able to defend without the mistakes.
I can go along with 2-1 for us.
If we can turn this around and go on a run, then we can get within touching distance of the playoff positions, which I thought at the start of the season would be our max.
There are some very winnable games coming up towards the end of the year.
We need goals/clean sheets and points. Easy eh?

The only pre match comment I want to make on this is what kind of insanity thinks it’s a good idea to invite fans to watch the game inside, in a hotel at the stadium while they cannot safely distance outside in the self same stadium itself? I’ve not lived in the UK since 2013 and in that time simple common sense seems to have disappeared. I’m not blaming the hotel here. But something’s badly wrong somewhere.

interesting graph from www.footcharts.co.uk/index.cfm?task=corr_defenceclick on the pic to make it bigger. comparison of shots on target conceded to goals conceded for lge 2. best fit line . anybody well above the best fit line probably has questions to ask their keeper. anybody below the line, their keeper is doing better than average. obviously the bigger distances the greater the effect too..positive or negative. as you can see, we're quite a way off the best fit line !! these figures haven't been updated for sat'days games.up to then Bradfords keeper had been doing great. avg 5 shots on target faced per game...avg 1 goal conceded. then he let 3 in. compare to us... avg 3.29 shots on target faced per game. 1.57 goals conceded per game. basically we've conceded fewer shots on target than all those teams to the right of us. but all those teams below that 1.5 goals per game mark...are doing better than us. look at Port vale. 3.71 faced. 0.71 let in. just have a look at 19/20 fig's for the Prem lge. look how the much criticised , and now replaced Kepa of Chelsea does in these graphs. 3.03 faced. 1.34 let in. www.sportbible.com/football/stats-fails-kepa-has-the-worst-save-percentage-in-premier-league-history-20200729compare to Dean Henderson at sheff utd.. 3.43 faced. 0.89 let in or Liverpool. mainly Alisson. but Adrian did have a few games too. 2.90 faced 0.72 let in

Have you thought of contacting Toby P rtf, I’m sure he would find your statistics invaluable 😉? Call me old fashioned but I take a much more old school look at football and how I judge players and performance. In the last week or two I see a team finally coming together and getting to know each other’s games so hopefully we will keep that going into November. The one unpredictable stat is how many fumbles and mistakes with Silly Billy make? The thing that concerns me most is that his reluctance to dominate his are and catch the ball instead of flapping at it, has been the same since he’s been here. If I were IE, I might just be asking exactly what our goalkeeping coach is doing because surely he is seeing the lads mistakes every week. In the majority of cases these days any contact between a forward and keeper will go in the keepers favour so Crellin must start to be more assertive than he has been so far?

Witnessing that game at Cambridge, and looking back over the games we have lost, has made me realise how poor teams in this league generally are, and why a settled team understanding each other's play should have no difficulty being successful. With one or two adjustments on the lines I have previously suggested I feel Evatt's team is now somewhere near what he promised us back in July/August, and I hope to see some fruition of that tomorrow against Bradford. We all know whom he needs to include and who can perform better, but I am starting to feel much more optimistic and look for at least 2-0 to us.

I see BBC MOTD twitter are still trying to whip up a storm on Evatt, even after he apologised. yet more poor judgement and man management from Evatt. shouldn't be singling him out for public criticism as per the well known Fergie principles. ((but AF could be really harsh in private...with the old hairdryer moments !!)) but...a hell of a lot of O.T.T snowflakey replies to that tweet. which i would defend Evatt from to some extent. there was even some replies to that tweet saying it was a sackable offence by Evatt !?!? you wonder where some of these loons would draw the line. are matches ok to be screened live to the public just in case a player makes a cock up and gets some stick, and he can't handle it . ?? are MOTD pundits allowed to highlight players individual errors or is that too personal ? I remember Coyle objecting to Shearer's criticism of Zat Knight on MOTD. Shearer went up massively IMO then, as ZK had been awful for several games, and OC had refused to drop him. he promptly dropped him after this incident. and went went on to win the next 3 games in a row . we hadn't previously even put 2 wins together. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011%E2%80%9312_Bolton_Wanderers_F.C._season#Results_per_matchday < see wins on 10/3, 24/3 & 31/3 www.theboltonnews.co.uk/news/9584248.shearers-zat-jibe-was-in-poor-taste-coyle/what about players giving rollickings to players on field.. is that ok. we perhaps don't hear what they say. but we publically see them doing it. is the manager allowed to drop a player just in case his feelings are hurt . the dropping is inevitably PUBLIC when the team sheet gets announced !!is the club allowed to release any 16 yr old they don't think are good enough.. just in case it "kills their dream". some of the more robust replies were saying...hang on... if you can't handle that, how can you handle playing in front of crowds that are likely to dish out far more stick. yes....be more open to mental health issues, and have support systems in the club available and promoted. but for gods sake, stop acting like promoting a mentally tough attitude is a bad thing. the best players will ALWAYS have that attitude..... like C Ronaldo, Shearer, Kane etc. there is a balance to be struck. just criticising the one size fits all ..old school man up message, the opposite is also true..... making it all too touchy feely in a "one size fits all" way is JUST AS BAD ! this is where the Chris Wilder incident with his keeper does apply. he went old school, and it worked. Wilder had worked with the player longer so probably knew him better. promoting any form of resilience and bounce-backability is almost seen as being anti-mental health plenty bounce back stronger and use it as a fuel to grow and get better. what didn't kill you makes you stronger etc character building. just one classic example below, but there are thousands more you could choose. www.cbsnews.com/pictures/celebs-who-went-from-failures-to-success-stories/6/Thomas Edison " As a young boy, Thomas Edison's teachers told him he was "too stupid to learn anything." He did not have much more success in the workplace, as he was fired from his first two jobs for not being productive. Even as an inventor, reports claim that Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. Happily for night owls across the globe, attempt 1,001 worked out differently."

Strangely I am less confident about this match than I was about the Cambridge game.
We have got to get the home form monkey off our backs so it is a definite must win game.
I don’t see many changes from the Cambridge game other than Gnahoua upfront instead of Doyle. The manager seems to have a thing about changing the defensive midfielder often so maybe Comlyn may return – I hope not.
So, despite my nerves about this one, I will go for a 2-1 win to get the season really moving forward.

My only real concern about this game is Billy Crellin and how he’ll react to the criticism, positively or otherwise. I’d really love him to come for the first cross and grab it with both hands rather than flap at it. Other than that I see no reason we shouldn’t win comfortably so I’ll go for our first clean sheet in a 2-0 win.

Ok RTF:
Reading, Middlesbrough, Ipswich and Newport, all to win.
I'll buy BWFC if I win, a programme I mean.
